I'm on the shading of a couple of kirin customs, and I just wanted to ask for some help on how to work on the shading.
Also the shading and light layers don't seem to be transparent, so I'm worried about uploading them.

The shading and light layer should be clipped to the base... what program are you using?
As for how to color them, what exactly are you having an issue with? The light layers can just be white (at least most of the time) and it doesn't take away from the pet. However the shading all depends on the color used to color the pet. I generally color the shading either the same color as that part of the pet OR a duller or lighter shade of it (again depends on the pet and the color).

Here are a couple of tutorials that, depending on which art program you're using, may help as well!
