The colors are examples only. We have no restrictions on what you do with the genes, be it coloring them, resizing them, or otherwise altering their shape/appearance. The only restriction is that they can only be used on Faenaria - otherwise they are a free and open resource.
As for the Exclusive genes - obviously these aren't terribly unique concepts and if someone would like to do a skeletal type pet (for instance) we're not going to deny them that. However, it would need to be a completely redrawn marking and couldn't be traced or copied from the exclusive one. Going forward we probably won't have exclusive genes again - these were linked to our original Kickstarter and were promised as exclusives or they would have been made available to everyone.

Hey everybody! I'm just dropping a quick note to let you know that we have officially re-released genes! Right now we only have a couple "packs" available and only for the four original pet breeds, however, we have plans to expand on these going forward. Previews are available via the Genus Codex, as are the PSD files.
Genes are premade markings that are free to use on any Faenaria custom. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

@stormweaved Yes, absolutely! They're a free, open resource - within the confines of Faenaria that is. Using them for another pet site or art project wouldn't be acceptable, but otherwise, enjoy them!

oh, it never crossed my mind to use for another site. i was thinking... maybe blending like.. the tiger stripes into leopard spots or such, as an example.

Are the colours "attached" to these genes or are they just examples on how to use specific markings? Say, if I wanted to have a Kirin with skeleton markings (which I cannot since I was not here in 2016) but with glowing green "bones" on violet background, would that be accepted?
Is there actually any combination of markings and colours NOT acceptable? I mean, it says there "exclusive" at the bottom but what keeps anyone from re-creating those markings?
(Also, I never noticed those leaves before!

Oh wow, these are so cool! I can't wait to play around with these! 
Are we allowed the edit the layers themselves? For example , if wewanted to remove some of the tiger stripes or change the size of the leopard markings.
