A recent suggestion got us thinking about how Faenaria handles gender. Our goal in the past was to use broad terms in an attempt to keep our list of genders to a minimum without excluding anything. We considered reducing our list and simply having "Other" since that was the broadest term we could think of. weezee, being heckin' brilliant, came up with a better idea entirely!
Since gender only shows up on the user profile, we have replaced the preset gender options with a customizable field. This will allow members to write in whatever they want their gender to be displayed as. If you don't wish to reveal your gender, you may leave the field blank and it will show nothing. We feel strongly that this will be the best option as there are a lot of gender related terms and what works for some might not work for everyone. Faenaria as an entity strives to be neutral when it comes to real world issues (this site is a place to escape from reality after all) and is in no way taking a stance with this change. Our goal is to include everyone as much as possible and not to purposefully leave anyone out.
You can change your gender by going to Account >> Account Settings >> Gender and then filling out the text field with your desired terminology.

But the gender in the profile is not at all related to avatars.
The avatar "genders" are more or less just 2 basic shapes: straight lines, or curvy with boobs.
Adding just one more base shape would mean adding a 3rd version to hundreds of items that are overlaying those shapes, with 100 colours for most of them. While that may be technically feasible, it would also be a real lot of work for the artists who still have a real life to deal with - we wouldn't get any other updates for a year or two ...
You are not limited to just 1 avatar, you can make 4 for free, any additional cost dream shards.
So you could experiment with both base shapes, however they are labelled?

A bit of an update on this... @Rhee We have changed the terminology used for the avatar bases from "gender" to "body type". We feel this better reflects what is being decided as the only difference is which body type you want to use - the masculine figure or the feminine figure. I hope that helps you out as our avatars are quite a lot of fun to play with!
