Howdy!
Okay, so I meant to make this post a lot of yesterdays ago. Weezee kept reminding me and I kept telling her "tomorrow". I meant to get it done before the start of NaNoWriMo and obviously that didn't happen. I'm sorry for the silence, I had hoped to have more to show you but life threw some lemons at me and I've been moving and adjusting to living with more than just my husband. Despite that, things are mostly good. I'm looking for a job and working on the whole author thing, but that's also kept me pretty busy, too. Anyway, I'm getting off on personal stuff and that wasn't really my point! On to the meat and potatoes!
By now I'm sure most of you have noticed that the NaNoWriMo items have had their names changed and that we didn't host NaNoWriMo this year on Faenaria. The reason for this is due to some unsavory behavior for the group that runs the official NaNoWriMo event. There were some things that happened and that have been happening presently that we are not in support of. After some discussion with the staff, we decided it was best to distance ourselves and establish our own small writing challenge. We'll be starting this challenge in February 2025. More details will come as we get nearer to the event so be watching on discord and here on the forums for those announcements.
There is one more order of business and that's to speak a little on why I've been so absent. Other projects and my mental health are largely to blame. I've been putting a lot of effort into my author platform since I started as an indie author and that was around working. Since I've not been working due to my health I've had more time, but put it into other endeavors. Faenaria as a pet site has become less of a priority to me, I'm sorry to say that but I think my absence proves my point. It's the truth and there's no point denying it. But I still want this community to flourish and the site to continue on. I'll still be part of the team, but my role will shift to focus on the RPG aspect of Faenaria while weezee takes over the pet/avatar portion of the site. She'll be in charge of the day to day and I'll take more of a back seat. We've already been doing this for the last few months and it has been working out extremely well.
What am I going to do with the RPG? Is it going to remain part of the site and be integrated? Yes, that is still a goal, but one for further down the line. Right now the plan is to create a Tabletop RPG system for the world of Faenaria and a story to go along with it. I also want to write books for Faenaria as well, I just have a few other series I want to get sequels out for before I start a new series. My idea is for these to be revenue streams for the site. Ways to support it and support upgrades that's not just a string of Kickstarter campaigns.
It unfortunately means that for the next while there won't be a lot of new content outside of FA/Pet releases. A TTRPG system is going to take time and I'll be posting periodic updates for everyone regarding it, but it is a big undertaking. I'm hoping this new direction will be most beneficial for the site and the brand.

Honestly, I don't feel much has changed, yes, I don't HAVE to run everything by you anymore, but you're still such a huge part of the site no matter your role. I still will ask yours, as well as the other staff for opinions, before doing most things. We're all in this together!
I am beyond honored to have you think I could take over the pet/avatar portions of the site. That you think I would do a good job. I will definitely try my best to do right by you, the staff, and the members!
I'm so sorry for all the personal things you have going on, but I'm happy to hear it's not as horrible as I had feared when you first told me!
I hope the RPG isn't too much of an undertaking, but it really could end up such an amazing thing for you and the site! As I've said many times, I know nothing about RPG so while being able to give input is awesome, can't say I'll do much of it!

I'm really glad, as a 2023 ML, to see Faenaria speak out against what happened with NaNoWriMo.
I admit, I protested in my own way. Erratic updates. 28,000 words of my "novel" this year was 28 pieces of art... because a photo is worth a thousand words!! I DID participate in another Discord's antiNaNo on TrackBear, a challenge where a staggering 47 people wrote over 2.5m words!! (For that challenge, I actually did use real words, and not art. so my 32,000 word contribution was legitimate.)
We appreciate you standing up for the injustices that those who participated in NaNo faced. From organization opacity (for lack of a better word, since they weren't transparent), to covering up literal crimes, to being extraordinarily rude to MLs and writers alike, to their support of AI and calling those who opposed it ableist. (No, that last part isn't a joke. As a person who uses a screenreader and special mouse and needs a mechanical keyboard, I am the poster child of a disabled writer. Not ONCE have I ever considered using AI for a literal writing challenge.)
