Not really! I normally don't use gradient maps to color; this is unique to my Faenaria work that has to match the FA color palettes! Gradient maps let you "recolor" a shaded image by choosing new colors to map toβe.g. the darkest color of the gradient map replaces the darkest color of the layer(s) below the gradient map layer.

I didn't know that Javascript can do image manipulations! Did you write it yourself? Are you using special libraries or frameworks to aid with that?
(The delay with that reaction to your post is due to a delay in my mental parsing of that statement

Using gradient maps to color things, the way you use them to color clothing! It's..........a process lol. You can see it properly done (I think? finally??) on Flederfalle's dress I posted in my coloring thread! The manticore and the kudo babies were done...another way that was very frustrating lmao

OOh, never heard it called that.. it's just coloring to me.

Water Elemental

Saorise
Yeah the specific feature is called gradient maps in photoshop and clip studio paint (which is what I use) lol Real handy for FR item recolors though owo

It would explain your colouring prowess!
All I know how to do it "paintbrush" single pixels or pixel groups!

Ooooh! I only use SAI, so I don't do that kind of coloring.
A program does it for our FA clothing (which means we don't do it with photoshop or any art program, it's javascript).... and that I throw at Cat or Kiran to do now....

How does it happen then that some items are in slightly different positions for different colours? I usually notice that for face parts ...

@weezee SCIENCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE lol But yeah, it's definitely helpful for me to try and match the existing FA items vs. trying to wiggle the colors around to get the shading "just right"
@Flederfalle There's a lot of reasons something might move slightly, mostly when it comes to coloring in batches and resizing differently or in different programs.

If you would point me to the item, I can see what the problem is. If it's like lips/eyes, most of those have to be done by hand as the program isn't smart. LOL
Those that show white for like teeth or the eye white bits, can't be colored with a program. They were also done by different people, but like I said, if you PM me with the items you speak of, I'll be happy to check into it, and make the changes when I have the time. ^^
@SeaCrest
Yes, I do understand that. I have such a hard time sometimes matching things...
I'm too lazy to use PS so I just do as close as I can get

Doesn't help that with different artists come different shading styles so if you want to be really consistent you have to tweak the gradient maps anyway lol

Yeah, which is why I usually have to tweak my shading/highlights to make the gradients work. I tend to make things way brighter than they need to be.

No, I didn't write it, so all I can say is it's js and jquery. I dunno if that's any help.
