Thank you! It is just a lot to process all at once. Talk about a year of Mishaps!
Yesterday My Sgt. at work wanted us all to get Covid tested... I forgot and didn't go. Sighs. Just needed a moment alone to process.
I was off work yesterday. I feel like I have lived at work. I ran around helping my friends and being a support to those who wanted it... Everyone is struggling. Today, today is mine. I am going to take my dog for a walk on the beach (If the road isn't closed) and spend some ME time!
My son and his wife relocated to 31.5 mile... They are safe for now. In the 3rd picture their house is the one with the white car by it.
The weirdest thing was when I would get home from work I was hearing phantom noises which were driving me crazy. I wasn't sleeping because of the noise in my head. I knew they were phantom because they were only in my right ear but not the left.
Our town counselors have been with us constantly. Drifting from building to building, from Dispatch to EOC to IC... Anyway one came in the other day and said 'Time for a hot minute.'
She said we were all in what's known as fight fight freeze zone. We are on hyper alert and while we are dealing with multiple problems at once we are also unconsciously scanning the environment for the next danger. Hence my phantom sounds... sounds I am hearing in the background but am unable to process properly as they are everyday all the time sounds that aren't indications of danger so they come out when I am trying to sleep.
She taught us grounding ourselves and letting go of stress... sounds now gone!
They called off the search for the two missing people... We are all heart broken over that one.
They geologists are saying the area needs 4 days without rain before the search can continue...
That picture of my sons house? It is directly across the street from my house... Less than a block away. I don't know why we didn't flood here. The water was on the roadway, but I am so thankful we didn't
So we wait now. Thank you for your warm thoughts!

17 years old... is it even a smart phone?
if not, then I'm not an amateur, those last forever! Mine is just to the point of having to charge it all the time lucky if it lasts 5 hrs. >_<

LOL You two crack me up.
Mine is two years old. And I cracked the screen within two weeks of having it.

Oh, my! I have a nick in the screen protector... got it within like a week of having the phone, but it has yet to actually get any worse in those 5+ years, so I think I have taken pretty good care of my phone!
If it weren't for the battery problem, I would NEVER give it up. I love my phone. :3

My phone is kind of on the verge of being "smart". Sony Ericsson T610
and the battery lasts about 5 days when I don't talk much on it. It used to be 2 weeks which is why I picked it back then

Giggler
To be fair prior to 2 years ago I didn't even have a phone. I only got it because Dad was in the hospital and I wanted Mom to have 24 access to me without being on the recorded line at work. And I didn't want to get bad news on the phone at work either.
It just has the one crack in the lower left corner of the screen otherwise it works fine.
I seem to be the only one in my family with a cell. Neither my Son nor my Mom can see the point of having one. lol.
Does your phone text Flederfalle?

Then you can't say I'm an amateur because while it's close to a smartphone, those phones lasted way longer! I still have my first cell phone, and I had it for many years too, and it probably still works.
I rarely talk on my phone, I mainly text and play games. Not a phone talking person.
@Giggler
Wow, everyone around here has them... and their children (which I think is absolutely absurd) have them!

The phones make staying in touch easier But when one doesn't want the bills one skips the phone. I think of most people we are one of the few who don't have them. But then I like to see people face to face mostly.

LOL. Funny! Alls well here. I had a stack fire but I got it out rather quickly. Chimney fire that is. The stovepipe glowed a pretty orange fore a bit of time. I let the fire die out, took my courage in my hand, threw my fear of heights out the window and climbed on the roof to sweep the chimney.
My bird learned a new word. He says 'pirates' now. Not sure where he heard it but it seems to be his favorite annoying word this week.
It snowed here. About 4 inches, now it's pouring rain. The temperature bounced from about 28F to about 43F and we are in a sever weather watch for flooding... Who would have thunk?
Today is clean the house day. I called a halt to firewood cutting on Thursday. 5 months is just this side of enough! In other news I have most of next years firewood cut and ready to be split... lol.
How is everyone else doing?

Todays Adventure:
A ride into the Eagle Preserve.
October 27
The Group: 2including me. (Mom really wanted to see the eagles come in)
Group ages:
Location? That a-way, a few minutes. .. Unless road construction stops us. It is road construction season after all!
Weather: Cold. Just below freezing.
Clothes: Not winter gear. I had a sweatshirt and crocks... One could say I am often ill prepared for the weather.
The where?

My Mom loves to see the gathering of the eagles, they come by the hundreds for the late salmon run.
Our very first stop we didn't find any eagles. My dog jumped out of the truck like he was stalking game. He has never stalked anything in his life but here he is posturing and 'hunting' although there wasn't anything to hunt here.

I found a moss covered log that looked interesting and the last rosehip hanging on a little bush defying winter's icy breath.

I also saw two of my favorite sights: These poles are leftover from fishing season. They are used to hold the subsistence net out in the river. They were left here on the bank, no one would dare take them.

This trailer is in a pullout. Another common sight, just left behind waiting on it's owner to show back up and claim it. Nope, no worries here about anyone swiping it. They wouldn't dare! It's the code here. Just leave it be, the owner will come back for it when they are ready.

At our second stop I find a bear has wondered through the parking lot before us. Not to big a bear, not when compared to my foot that is. Must be a little one hunting for late fish in the river.

There wasn't a lot to see here. Some pictures placed for the tourists and the river beyond the little covered area. We decided not to walk to far from the truck in case the bear was still about. Not likely but you never know.

That fresh snow was too tempting for my dog. Every year he looks forward to the rolling in it. It is one of his favorite things to do.

At our third stop we found the eagles. I didn't have to walk to far, they were sitting all over the place but not in the hundreds just yet. They will come as winter comes closer.

And more eagles...

The scenery wasn't too bad either. The sun came out and put on it's full colors.

And that concludes todays adventure... I only slipped once by the bear tracks but I didn't fall down. My feet did get cold when the snow snuck in the holes of the crocks. My boots are currently in the mail and 'on the way' lol.

And thank you for the leggings! I love them.

Wow I don't even know where to begin...
We had a major snowfall here. around 3 to 4 feet. Than a freeze. Then pouring rain. Then a flood.
My kids showed up on my doorstep last week at 230am. Their house was chest deep in freezing water.
They saved their pet lizard. Lost all the electronics though.
So proud of my son who rescued the neighbor Grandma, and her grandson then went back for their dog and her puppies then went back again to rescue their chickens.
I held my son off until about 6am but he waded back into the flood waters to check on the neighbors and to rescue the rest of his stuff with a canoe.
The next day the flood was gone and we all took a deep breath...
We shouldn't have...
The mudslide occurred wiping out a home and we still have 2 people missing.
Massive evacuations... we have been declared a natural disaster by our Governor.
More rain pours from our skies, roads continue to wash out, people are afraid, anxiety is high.
I have been at work constantly, feeling guilty I am not available to help friends and family BUT when I am home I feel guilty I am not at work helping out.
We are all in a holding pattern right now... hurry up and wait...
If the area does slide we are looking at 1000 + people that will have to move...
We have Coast Guard, National Guard, Red Cross and many other Search and Rescue teams on sight...
Our neighbors in Canada are offering us aide as well as our neighbors to the South of us. The out pouring has been incredible.
My home sits just across the street from the Evac area so I am safe from sliding but not flooding.
It is just so much to process. And we have no end in sight. The rains will continue to fall, possibly till spring, which is bad...
And there are even those of us who feel like we shouldn't leave, we choose this place, put our blood sweat and tears into it, It is just all so undecided... and I really hate not knowing!

Oh my, giggler! I'm so happy you and yours are all ok. Lots of us have been wondering where you had gotten off to. Now we know, and totally wish it was something much more happy. *hugs* I hope things settle down, and the whole hurry up and wait thing stops. *more hugs*

Great Mishaps
A more positive start to today...
Someone started a facebook thread, What's the weirdest thing you evacuated with. It is hilarious. In that moment when you have to just grab something and shove it into your pack and go... We are all laughing together.
The rains have stopped. It was 3 tropical storm fronts that rolled through and part of a hurricane. There were stars in the sky why I put the dog out. The dog who is enjoying the cessation of rain and doesn't want to come back in.
Our Canadian neighbors are rocking! Their theater is putting on a live showing of the nutcracker sweet and they sent us the link to live stream it... for free. Anyone here is welcome to watch... How cool is that?
Even our gym owners rose to the occasion and opened the gym for free to anyone who needed it. No membership needed.
Not so positive but ok zone. A piece of sheetrock fell from my ceiling last night. It left a hole and a breeze. I am sure there will be funds available to repair my roof but if not that's ok too. One of my neighbors offered to last fall and I am kicking myself that didn't happen. (Rolling eyes at myself now)

Great Mishaps
It has been an awful month... Hopefully January will be better. Have set up some goals and such.
My favorite Cousin Passed away and was found on Monday night.
He was our holiday buddy and always played board games with us kids. I shall forever remember his beautiful eyes and big smile.
My cat died yesterday. She was my Warrior Queen. No one was allowed to hurt me with her around.
We got 14 inches more snow. And now it is raining again. I am praying there will be no more mudslides.
So not feeling the holiday this year.
Can't wait for spring and summer!
