Our lab's hamster passed away a couple weeks ago. And everyone was sad, like every time we saw his empty cage etc. So we all asked the post doc when he was buying a new one and he was like I'm not, I'm only going to be here for another year. You guys can buy one and have the cage. So I went and bought this gorgeous little white hamster, and I named it ghost. So if our boss asks what it is and what it's doing in our office we can tell him it's the ghost of the previous hamster

I mean to be fair I sincerely doubted he would have problems with it. (I mean he came downstairs to pay his respects to Jerry’s corpse before we buried it so he was clearly at least marginally attached to the hamster) but we also did agree to ask forgiveness not permission

Now if only we could talk said resident hamster out of his taste for human blood particularly mine we'd be in fantastic shape.

Yeah so I’m hoping he’s just bored af and that getting him a bigger cage (more running/toy space) will help. If it doesn’t oh well he is luckily exploroatory enough that it is reasonably simple to hold a box up to thw cage door let him climb on in and then clean cage and pop him back up to the door. Petting is fine. Being in hands may just be out for this one. But I’m not willing to throw in the towel on taming one week in so fingers crossed for me and Ghost. An accord between the two of us would be nice.
