THIS. my first NaNo i ever did, someone mentioned this, and it's awesome. if i want to change a word, i crtl-x the old one, type the new one, and then ctrl-v the old word into the graveyard.
when i start each new writing session, i scan back through what i wrote - can i make it a little clearer? did i forget some detail that might be important? do i want to add some lines of dialogue?
my NaNos are all in a nice neat index in my sig at the link "nanowrimo" - but this year'r progress is right at the top of my sig

I know we are only on day two, but is anyone else having trouble not going back and editing?
My fingers are itching to edit already and I haven't finished chapter one yet.
I have to keep pushing myself NOT to look back. Anyone else?

It's a temptation, for sure, Giggler! I am kiiinda in an editing position. The problem is that I had so little planning before NaNo suddenly started, that my first writing session became horribly muddled. I was very much exploring some basic stuff that I needed to figure out before I could continue with the story, but though there was necessary information here and there it did not come out in a sensible order at all, and when finishing writing for the day I discovered that some things had just been plain left out. That annoys me too much, I can't continue without dealing with it, so I'm doing a sort of sneaky editing, I suppose
I've worked for the messy words, they are definitely staying in the statistics, but I am allowing myself to pretend that they're not sitting around in my document. I'm simply taking the significant details I discovered yesterday, and writing it all in a more sensible order today. That way I can continue my story without that stuff bugging me forever, and I don't actually lose any progress over it either

Resisting the urge to edit is always hard for me, too. If I'm taking my time writing something, I might fiddle more. But for NaNo I give myself permission to leave the mess.
However, I also keep a "word graveyard". Similarly to what Kiran described. If I decide to rework something and it means losing a bunch of words (more than like 50) I'll keep them separated from the rest and keep going with the changes.

I think you're the one who told me about the graveyard, trystan! I remember going "Ohhh that's brilliant!" lol

Zilver
Wow you are all full of great idea's. I might have to do a little editing at the end of the day. The graveyard sounds cool. I might do that too. Not sure yet.
One fun thing with my writing today, I was scrambling around looking for a date to set my novel in. I knew it took place in the far future, but how far to go?
I was rather pleased with the date I came up with. 4907. It was the word count at that point in the novel.
I wrote off and on all day long. I am not thrilled with it but I guess at this point it's ok. Now to just keep slogging forward and not scrapping the whole thing (Which is my norm.).
Anyone else have something fun in theirs today they want to share?
