Another animal I think Origins should consider is the Tardigrade or Water Bear. They are microscopic but of all creatures to exist on Earth, the Space Bear is the most difficult to kill. I'm fascinated by this creature because it's the only known animal from Earth to be able to withstand the extreme temperatures in space. It can also withstand great pressure, extreme cold and heat. This creature is the closest our planet has to being invincible I think.
In normal conditions they live for 3 months or up to 30 months. If latent, they can be revived after 60 years. But there's also a documented case where a water bear has remained dormant for 120 years. Believe it or not these creatures have outlasted the dinosaurs and have been around for 530 million years.
In order for the tardigrade to be a pet, it would have to be much bigger than microscopic size I guess and intelligent enough to somewhat be able to understand people. Don't know how a bigger size would affect it though in that...would a bigger size increase it's already amazing abilities or weaken them? That's something I really don't know. If a bigger size were to strengthen is very real abilities it would probably look at a dragon and laugh. Dragons are my favourite fantasy creatures but in real life the tardigrade has been tested to be able to survive solar winds or whatever it is our planet's atmosphere is protecting us from in space. If the tardigrade can survive that, it could probably survive a dragon breathing fire easily.
In terms of Weapons, the tardigrade has sharp dagger like teeth in a tubular mouth which they use to spear dust particles. Then again a few species are predatory in nature and feed on smaller animals. Imagine if this thing was bigger and could spear something like a dragon or something else. To me this seems like an Over Powered pet and I like OP.

Ok ok but what if... cats. Nothing special, just cute normal kitties with their spine ridges and poisonous stingers, floating around in the air :3

I'd love to see an otter based pet because they are utterly adorable.

I think cows are udderly adorable
Seriously though, I like cows

I'm a sucker for small furry creatures so I would love to see rat, ferret, or badger-like creatures (a Tasmanian devil would be awesome!!!) And whoever mentioned Rodents Of Unusual Size, yes please!!! =D
I'm pretty dog crazy so I'd pick my favorite dog breed - the lean and elegant ibizan hound.

Yes!!! Fennec!!!! Or any kind of fox really.
I also play Kingdom of Knuffel, Flight Rising, and FurVilla. I have the same username on all of them which is the same one I use here.
Sea slugs
Or isopods
Or ammonites
Or sharks
Pretty much anything cute from the ocean.

I love birds, but I always keep my eyes peeled specifically for vultures. I did research on them when I was young and was enchanted by their mythology and their importance to the ecological system.
You know what'd also be cool? Jackalopes.

My dream pet is a Bat, but Ill settle for my second fave, cat
Normally, I'd say dragon but because people have said the dragon already I'm going to go with the drop bear from Australia. I like drop bears because like the koala they look cute and fluffy but unlike the koala, the drop bear is much more active, carnivorous, and very dangerous. In a rpg setting, the koala would be useless since the koala sleeps so often because of it's diet. A normal koala would be a sitting duck in rpg situation. If a drop bear could be tamed to some degree, then I reckon it would be much more helpful. If I were in a world were some bad creatures or evil things wanted to attack me, I wouldn't mind having a blood thirsty koala to release.

I really love rats and mice, ^.^ but if it's mythical I love dragons and chimeras
I'm starting to think a Inkanyamba might be cool. It's an Africa cryptid. Huge serpent with horse like head. In the region(can't remember where it is) it is believed that seasonal Storms are triggered by the creature's anger. I remember that when my mom last went on a holiday to Africa I asked if she could find a statue or anything of this creature for a souvenir but sadly she couldn't find anything. Because it can trigger storms, it sort of reminds of storm from the X-men and when I was a child and watched to old X-men cartoons that was my favorite character ... alongside wolverine.

Non mythical though...I'd have to say I very much like the owl, hyena and hoopoe.
I just like how the owl sybolises wisdom and can also be an omen and how it's so silent in flight.
I like the Hoopoe because during my South African holiday a few years ago one of the things I learned is that there's a tribe who believes that the hoopoe symbolizes luck and almost like an angel as well. I was surprised to learn about this bird as I didn't know there was so much symbolism to it before.
The Hyena like the dragon in some cases has an unfair bad reputation. The Hyena is actually very intelligent and does kill it's own prey. I like the hyena because I'm amazed at it's intelligence and how well they work together in the wild. The hyena is one animal which seems to constantly surprise me the more I learn about it.

Been busy trying to find out more about cryptids. So far, the ones which grab my attention is the flatwoods monster, the muhaha, a-mi-kuk, trunko, el cuero, ozark howler, mishipeshu, Hopkinsville Goblin, Zaratan, Bunyip, tikbalang, alien bigfoot, Huay Chivo, mongolian death worm, Rumtifusel, saci and the Kapre. Guess why I'm suggesting them here is because they look cool enough for anyone to want to adopt them(including myself) but they're also different and something I haven't seen before on a virtual pet site.

Oh! I really like the cool and obscure sorts of invertebrates, though I suppose my fantasy tastes align with you guys'.
Velvet Worms are their own Phylum, distinct and not at all closely related to earthworms (Annelids) and are called Onychophora! They have complex, matriarchal social structures. Unlike wolfs, which in the wild live in family groups, Velvet Worms actually have alphas! A young Velvet Worm will ride on the backs of the adults in its group, but that behavior is not tolerated by adults, where it serves as an attempt to gain status; adult Velvet Worms who attempt to do that are bitten and chased! In their groups, Velvet Worms will pair off; boy-girl pairings are most common, followed by girl-girl; exclusively male partnerships are formed much less frequently! The Alpha Female will be very aggressive to foreign worms who she fears may take her territory.
A way of changing them to be more suitable for this kind of site would probably be by making their eyes larger, and possibly relocating them to the top of their antennae. Another potential change is altering their claws to more closely resemble the claw or paw of a vertebrate, or maybe even change them to just be stubs. Also the labrum should maybe be removed- I don't know if having it be replaced by a foreward-facing mouth, or if our squishy friends ought to be left without a mouth. Some velvet worms can shoot a Spider-manesque webbing, and one even became a meme, so maybe referencing that might be good?
That is a http://www.fossilmall.com/EDCOPE_Enterprises/Chengjiang/chengjiangfossils25/chengjiangfossils-25.htm, a Lobopod that, like most of them that are not Tardigrades, Arthropods, or Velvet Worms, are poorly understood. Looking at the fellow, we are immediately struck by the Miraluolishania's adorable eyes, and also the rest of its head, which is fairly cute. A chibified version, with more attention drawn to the head and a reduces and possibly fatter body would make a great virtual pet!
This is Tori; or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurdia Victoria, rather. This beauty wasn't identified as a single, complete animal in and of itself until 2009! She was originally believed to be multiple different animals. Going by her name and identification history, it might be interesting to give her a slight princess or patched-together theme? Maybe a patchwork princess thematic? No? You could have the different sections stitched together, and maybe have them be able to be different colors, and put a crown on her head shield! She was one of the larger Cambrian predators, at eight inches long. Not impressive today, but when she was alive she dwarfed almost every other creature!
The genus Peytoia is one of the easiest anomalocarids to make cute. These people already did so for us! I don't really have much else to say; it's adorable. Some other depictions (often from other angles) are not as cute. Like the Anomalocaris and Hurdia Victoria, the early Peytoia fossils were misidentified as being from many different animals, rather than a single animal, and later discovered fossils were considered types of anomalocaris! It was not considered a genus distinct from anomalocaris until the late 1970s! Maybe a plush toy thing might work? Or disco.

The Opabinia Regalis is an unusual creature. For many years, it and the other strange creatures were used to back up a hypothesis that stated complex multicellular life forms evolved rapidly in an "explosion". Later, the discovery of earlier lobopodians that served as intermediary fossils helped to disprove it. The Opabinia wikipedia article is filled with many "on the other hand"s. I think going with a trickster thematic might be cute. Give the little fellow a jester hat right behind its farthest back set of eyes, or something.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schinderhannes_bartelsi is my friend and I love him. Sure, this is just an ordinary anomalocarid, but all the reconstructions look so fun!
The anomalocaris is the archetypical anomalocarid. It's always been a fascination of mine, ever since I watched Before the Dinosaurs: Walking with Monsters. At up to a meter long, it's the largest of any known Cambrian animal. Their name means "abnormal shrimp"!
Seaslugs are beautiful. My personal favorite is the Glaucus Genus! I honestly think many pets could be based off of Sea Slugs, but if it had to be one, I would pick some kind of generic-y mixture of the different Glaucus species.
Or possibly Sea Angels! Sea Angels are not exactly my cup of tea, but the angelic imagery that can be used is definitely a pro, and they're more interesting than basing a pet off the white bunny sea slug!
I think maybe combining the concept of a cat as a witch's familiar with the japanese Nekomata might be cool? As would having a little fox pet, and with a larger foxes in the general mythos- I've had this idea for a while, and I think it's pretty clever, honestly? The concept is that Kumiho and Kitsune are related- Kumiho, being larger, need to prey on humans to survive, but island dwarfism has made the Kitsune small, and for them, preying on humans would be impractical, to say the least. Possibly have them both grow more tails and more powerful as they age? The Kitsune wouldn't be able to assume the form of an adult human until the third tail, only being able to look like children initially, while the larger Kumiho is capable of becoming an adult human the instant it gets its second tail!
Also pigeons! I love them. they are amazing birds. maybe a love theme because the association of white doves and true love?

@Qwanri
Tardigrades are actually Lobopodians, like everything I suggested be a pet before the seaslugs, and Tardigrades survived not only solar winds, but also extremely high rates of radiation and the vacuum of space itself! And, while doing so, actually thrived and reproduced! I was going to suggest making them into a pet, but I didn't have any ideas how.
In the real world, a larger size would weaken tardigrades, but this is fantasy, so a larger one can be as strong as microscopic ones, if not stronger! Maybe a macroscopic one could be the size of a pig or bear or something? Probably not big enough to spear an adult dragon, but possibly a young one!

In order for the water bear to be a pet, I guess it could be a cartoonish worm type thing with 8 legs possibly standing up. The spear like function doesn't have to be it's mouth like it is in reality but maybe a handheld weapon instead. I'm imagining something that's attached to a chain because that way, the water bear could throw the weapon and pull something back a bit kinda mimicking the behavior of the actual thing. The main features of the space bear to me are the 8 legs, the spear like function(weapon) and it also looks very tanky, and the four finger like things on each foot. The face can look like however a cartoon's worm's face is imagined to look like because the face definately isn't one of it's redeeming features. So I think it's possible to make it look like a pet.
